JumpstartPGH is a program of the Historic Hill Institute. Dr. Ellis founded the Historic Hill Institute in 2004, which is designed "to preserve and protect Pittburgh's oldest and one of America's most famous neighborhoods." As an historian, she focused on telling stories about historic properties, hoping to inspire care and investment; but she quickly realized historic preservation was largely about developing historic properties, so she took Turner Construction's Management Class and graduated before life would take another turn. She took a break to care for her most precious historic preservation project---her Mother, who had begun suffering from dementia. She returned to engage in projects such as the Charles and Frankie Pace Oral History Project, the celebration of Freedom House Ambulance Service founders, in collaboration with the NASEMSO Conference in March 2023, to serve as co-founder of the Daisy Wilson Artist Community, which became the August Wilson House; and worked on the historic marker with the Heinz History Center. She most recently served as the Director of Community, Arts and Culture for the Buccini/Pollin Group, developers of the Lower Hill Redevelopment Project. She also served as a Consultant to Live Nation, to help name and design the interior of their new venue, "Citizen's Live at The Wylie," and learned a significant amount of information about real estate development throughout her four year journey. She is now on a quest to build Pittsburgh's first, urban contempory hostel---Meridian Hostels. She is delighted to take the first cohort of Pittsburgh on their journey and is a graduate of a different Jumpstart Program.
The Jumpstart Program was created by Ken Weinstein and is based on Jumpstart Germantown and Jumpstart Philly programs, which just celebrated their tenth anniversary of "Gettin' Sh*t Done!" You will learn much more about him and these programs in the near future!
